Yosemite Valley - June 7-8

This was my eleventh trip to Yosemite, sixth to the Valley. But I have never seen the waterfalls so heavy! Yosemite had 40% more snow than usual, last winter, and we were there in early June, during the first 90° heat wave.

El Capitan is on the left, Bridal Veil Falls is on the right. Half Dome is seen in the distance.

Two views of Upper Yosemite Falls, both taken near Swinging Bridge. The Merced River is in front.

We hiked up to Mirror Lake, passing along Tenaya Creek. As you can see, Tenaya Creek was bloated, with rushing, turbulent flow. It had clearly expanded beyond its normal banks. Mirror Lake itself, usually dry by August, was pretty full this year in June.

We proceeded to a fabulous dinner at the Ahwahnee Hotel. A bit pricey, but the food was truly special, and the service too. And the dining hall is impressive.
